Ive had hi def tvs now for a while so havent really noticed anything but last night was at a m8s, he doesnt have hi def tv`s and the sky high def tv ad came on and the picture quality was considerably better than the ad before and the ad after, hang on i thought, he aint got hi def tv`s so how was the picture better on a non high def tv?

because its not showing hi-def pictures in the advert, its simulated 3D of some sort.

you need an IMAX for something close to quality like that :ok

waching sd tv on a tv that is of a much higher resolution will show how bad the
sd picture really is

then going back to watching sd on a sd tv will look like the picture is amazing
it's not, the tv is just cr*per so you can't see the bad bits

all hdtv's look bad on sd the only hdtv that i have seen that gives a nice pic
on sd is the Panasonic PX70 or 80 plasma's

you will also notice dvd don't look as good on hdtv for the same reason as
sd dont

fact is we all jumped onto hdtv's cos they look better
and are great for the newer games consoles an using as big monitors lol

try your ps3 or xbox 360 on sd i bet you won't even get as far as dieing
before you switch off and plug in your cable back into your hdtv
there is a huge difference

it's just hardly any tv's channels are hd yet

Im still unsure yet - i know quality is far better on a hidef tv cus i see it, but i am still feeling as though we are now being conned, after all these tvs are often made by the same industry who has made us feel video tape was terrible compared to dvd despite it being ok for us for 15yrs etc, so we had to go and replace all of our tapes with dvd, now dvd is crap compared to blu ray and the same with vinyl - mini disc - cd - vinyl was dead quality was crap according to the industry , then mp3 emerged and all cds were being ripped, deterrants failed and now vinyl is making a comeback claiming that the sound is far better etc....

Theyre pushing bluray cus dvd is so easy to copy and once we all have replaced with bluray and bluray is easier and cheaper to copy, how long will it be before the replacement?.

download a tv episode in divx and HD format and play them on you pc, you probably wont notice much difference.

connect the pc up to a HDTV and you will, when you try and strech an SD format to fit even 1280x720 it will look like ART sports on a good day.

the point of HD is better quality picture for bigger screen sizes, home cinema etc.

just dont get me stared on my conspiricy to keep everybody in their homes being happy consumers, spending our money how they want... oops sorry wrong forum :biggrin

also solid state will take over Bluray, so in the future we will go full circle and our games will be on a cartridge again :rolleyes2

My missus won't let me buy a hd tv yet..We brought a phillips tv just before hd came out,and as of yet its not let us down..got to say the picture is good for a standard tv...in fact it knocks spots off some hd tv(s )mind you we payed nearly a grand for it back then so you get what you pay for..

this ones for the motorised sat viewers...Who do you reckon puts out the best picture Ive only got sd so I can only give my two penny worth on that ..but if you got hd give us a run run on picture quailty and your vote..

Sly (england )

premier (german )

Canal+ (dutch )

Nova (greece )

Digital+ (spain )

Sky (italy )

for quality of the picture my vote goes to premier Germany..It knocks spots off sly and the rest, and the clarity is very hard to beat...So yes we are being conned just for an average picture...

premiere is my choice also for best quality.

on some dreambox images you can set the OSD to display what resolution the channel is broadcasting in, gives you a good idea as to which provider is skimping on bandwidth by squeezing more lower quality channels on the transponder. ART for one and some of the adult stuff.

look all they do is slowly bring down the quality of what we are watching then bring out something they tell us is better . :tsk

i have a panasonic viera , the picture is fantastic , is it better than the Toshiba rear projection that is upstairs now ............. hmm not sure .

it happened with records they got porer and porer then they gave c.d . top quality vinyl on the right deck still sounds better . but then c.d is cheaper

it`s like the add years ago , you would sit at home watching a sharp t.v and the add comes on and say`s look how much better a picture is on a Toshiba . bl**dy hell people said it is forgetting they were watching it on their sharp :biggrin . the power of the add and the weekness of the brain :eek

technology evolution :biggrin

over the past 20 years we have gone from wooden tv's with rounded screens
to HD flat pannel tv's with digital freeview boxes built in that you can hang off the wall.

personaly i think we are moving forward i don't think its a con at all
