How to make and install your own ring tones on a 1.12 version iphone

You need to do a few things before you start:-

You will need a wave editor to make you ring tone 30seconds long I use Nero but there are lots of different ones just Google and find a free download.

You need to see the file extension for your files, you do this by

1) click on My computer
2) click the Tools tab
3) click the folder options
4) click the View tab
5) scroll down until you find – hide extensions for known file types
6) un check it and apply

Next you need to convert your ring tone to AAC format; this can be done in itunes

1) open itunes
2) click on the Edit tab
3) click on the Advance tab
4) open the Importing page
5) find the Import using icon and scroll down until you see AAC encoder, click and apply

Finally make a folder on your desk top called Home made ring tones

Now to start

Go to itunes an select the song you want as a ring tone (you cant use ones you bought off itunes as these are protected) right click on it and scroll down to convert to AAC and click it. It will say converting for a few seconds and a duplicate tune will appear.

Drag that tune into your folder marked home made ring tones

Open up your wave editor and make a 30 second sample of that tune that you want to use and save it in your folder (call it the song name + ring tone)

Now right click on you ring tone and rename it, you need to rename the file extension to m4r

Now open up itunes and import your new ring tone – you must import not drag and drop

Your ring tone will appear in the ring tone folder on itunes

Sync your Iphone, check your settings and it should appear above your regular ring tones under custom ring tones, just select and get some one to call

Hope this helps
