Just wandering if there is any reason NOT to buy the new lite version?.

The reason why I'm asking is that I'm wandering if sony have done something either hardware or firmware to the lite version that might stop us to put our own "software" on if you know what I mean!.

PS 3 40GB model features only two USB ports rather than four, and loses the multi-memory card slot and backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 2 catalogue.

I went and got a 60gb whilst i could.

Actually got the non lite, original version just now. Dont look like you can really buy new original versions any more?.

Anyways £130 with a 1 gig mem card and 2 games. Not bad when it comes with a 12 month warrenty.

Dave well it looks like you don't need any info on the light as you have the normal one

got one for Elizabeth last Christmas and a lad in work done the downgrade to play home brew stuff, in fact think you can get loads of the games if you look, got her a 4 gig card and she has about 7 psp games and a snes and sega emulator with a shed load of games on it , i been told that you can do this to all them now and if things go wrong you can revert to the original firmware :ok

but had no problems at all.

just got her a r4ds card for Christmas and just loading that up. 2 gig card and have 37 games on it up to now

check out this site

_http://www.psp-hacks.com_

if i remember correctly they had a custom firmware for the lite the day before release over here.

just had a look for a custom firmware for the new "slim n lite", a couple of things r needed before the firmware can be changed, ie a psp phat, a pandora battery and a pandora mem card. the pandora battery involves a wire to be soldered on the motherboard of the the psp slim n lite, could not quite understand wot the pandora mem card is or does.

Sounds like I did a good move in getting the original version. I mean soldering a handheld when it should have everything available via the memory card?. I just gotta work out the firmware thing and software version first. For which there seems to be 2 different version numbers.

On the downside seems Gamestation did not remove the custom screen. As I have a Liverpool FC screen when I support Arsenal!!!!!!!!!.

first time i have heard you mention this.... are you a glory hunter? :biggrin

ok here goes as i have just noticed this thread i am sorry

first thing if the psp firmware is above 3.52 then the pandora battery and memory card is still needed

now the pandora battery don't always require desoldering etc the battery is a replacement battery which has been modified to allow recovery console to be activated this is also used if you kill the psp

now the best firmware wihh i just installed using a pandora battery and memory stick just last week is 3.71 mm-3 as this has all the gameloaders for new games and yes you can download them and play them on the psp

now if you have bought the phat psp then all should be well as just need to downgrade to 1.5 firmware using pandora battery but if you have the new slim then you need to downgrade to anything below 3.51 then upgrade

psp-hack is a great site and it helped me with all of the same thing last week after buying a psp for the little lads xmas

dave if u can let me no wot version firmware u have on ur phat psp

Dave9946
15th November 2007, 09:59
Just checked it and it says "PSP Update ver 2.71" . And when I click on that it says "The system software of your PSP system is version 3.40"

Thats the only info I can find on it. So a little unsure what the 2 different version numbers mean?.

dan_b_lucky
15th November 2007, 10:12
i take it u had a umd in the drive at the time of checking. if so wot its saying is there is a 2.71 firmware update on the umd but the firmware on ur psp is 3.40. to check firmware on the xmd (main screen) got to settings then press x then go to system settings press x then scroll down to system info press x. this will then tell u wot firmware u have

Dave9946
17th November 2007, 14:20
Well done as said above as it confirms the firmware as 3.40.

I doubt very much I can put anything on it and expect it to work right away lol. Just gotta dig out a usb lead I have here somewere and get the firmware altered.

Dave9946
18th November 2007, 17:47
Oh bugger!!!!!, been looking at the above mentioned psp site and it looks like I need this pandora battery thing!!!!!. So much for being sorted with just a usb lead and a couple of choice downloads to alter the firmware.

Looks like I'm looking at another £30 plus before I can do anything like put things on the mem stick myself!.

Anyone know of a decent site to get this pandora battery from?.

Teddyboysampson
18th November 2007, 18:26
not having much luck then Dave

mine was so easy ( or i believe so:biggrin) downgraded to 1.5 then upgraded to a hacked version , got 2 4 gig duo cards from flebay although cot stuffed on one, just won another with next day delivery for £15.49 coming from sunny wales :biggrin

i will see a lad in work to were to get this Pandora battery from:ok

and should let you know by the evening

well worth doing though

Dave9946
18th November 2007, 18:48
Thanks teddy, the only downside of buying used from the likes of gamestation. In that you cant find out the firmware version first lol.

Certainly a bit of a pain in the bum right now.

The only other theory I can think of is that if it's possable to update the firmware futher than the 3.40 it currently is in order to use a possable hack from there. Other than that the only other option would be to use software put onto the mem stick and do it that way.

Sadly non of the above 2 options seems to be available from what I've looked into.

well i have had no trouble with mine need to check wether it is a phat or slim type i just bought another psp from game yesterday for the other little lad saves all the fighting it is now onhomebrew 3.71mm-3 and is running the simpsons new game no problem

as you said a pandora battery is needed which does cost about £30 but i have made that back by doing a few of my little bros mates psp's

and the games are all available from the usual places if you ever in the preston area in the near future then let me know will be happy to sort it out for you

Dave9946
18th November 2007, 19:20
Well I suppose it could "develop" a fault and I take it back for a replacement lol, not really wanting to try that.

Read that you can update to 3.50 then downgrade to the magical 1.5 using an original copy of Lummins (or however it's spelt lol).

jaffergu
18th November 2007, 19:25
yeh mate that is right that can be done just hire a copy from blockbuster or somewhere like that

Dave9946
18th November 2007, 19:36
No bloody hire shops round here in litherland. Prob nip the strand tomorrow and have a look for a used copy first lol.

Noticed the 2 version there during the week, just need to find the original.

Dave9946

-www.gameseek.co.uk--- thats where i got my pandora battery from only took 2 days to arrive on the door mat

That one has been slated as a poor copy of a pandora battery m8. But at the same time they also state it's usefullness.

Think I read it only works with non custom firmware models. Or was it only works with custom firmware installed? lol.

Now where was that frying pan as I feel like it's gonna hit my head several times!. Reminds me of the early day of modding the original psx all this hassle lol.

19th November 2007, 11:04
dave

seen a lad in work and he said you can convert your own battery to a pandoras battery although it has to be done on a hacked psp, will get the info and hopefully post it late tonight for you

Teddy:ok

Dave9946
19th November 2007, 11:31
Not even sure what a hacked psp is m8?.

Think I'll opt for a copy of Limines if I can find it. Otherwise prob the battery that jaffer put a link for.

Teddyboysampson
19th November 2007, 14:30
dave

hacked or downgraded psp , like what people use to play home brew and back up games on

he got my e mail and going to e mail it me or do a search

making a pandoras battery:ok

he never bought one and fixed and downgraded load of them

Teddy

Dave9946
19th November 2007, 18:38
Well got the correct copy of Lumines (00043), which is apparently rare to find?. Funny that as I found the serial no version in both the shops I looked for it in. The 00043 version is the one needed to downgrade a PSP from 3.50 to 1.5 it seems.

So hopefully no fancy battery fix needed any longer!.

19th November 2007, 19:03
I know this topics on the PSP.

Just thought I'd like to add that anyone buying a Ds Lite needs to get hold of an R4DS, using this cartridge you play all latest games, just a case of getting the roms off the net doing a google, you can get all !!

Dave9946
19th November 2007, 19:35
Thanks for that Paddy. As said earlyer in the thread the gf has one of these and untill I done a little research I failed to see how this could be done on a DS as it has no mem stick input.

Teddyboysampson
19th November 2007, 21:45
Dave glad to see you are getting there

paddy seen one of these cards a few years ago and they were only 512 max and about £80, pucked a 2 gig one up for @£43 although a one gig would be ample

get all my roms from

h**p://ds-downloads.com/organs/romscache.php

sometimes goes off at peak times so just check it out

Finally got it all sorted about half hour ago and am playing some decent titles at last.

It was all quite easy once I had the correct info and files etc. Nothing so satisfying as working out problems and getting it sorted yourself, with a little help of cause.

Using fw 3.52 M33-4. The non -4 version caused probs as the recovery menu would'nt show for me and I could'nt change the umd setting that was causing games on the mem stick to report an error.

All sorted now of cause.

Teddyboysampson

Dave9946
21st November 2007, 18:39
I'd missread that bit m8. Did'nt realise I effectivly have to dip the battery out and in again to get it to work. Only do that when it's switched off as it seems to be the only way to get it to work!.
