Camcorders

Is anyone up to speed with current selection of camcorders? I'm looking at getting a new one (as cheaply as possible) for the wife this xmas but am just a bit confused with the various formats. Ideally I would like a hard disk one in sub £300 price range. I have found a JVC Everio GZ-MG155. Anyone know if this is any good, any pros or cons or is there anything better for the price?

M8 i have read a few reports a couple of months ago about camcorders when i was after a new one, what i ended up doing was going around a few retailers picking a few up feeling the weight and if it is easy to operate whilst holding it etc, then the ones i liked,i made a note of model then coming back and doing a search for reviews etc.

I ended up buying a card based hidef camcorder.
