Its been leaked/reported today that the government is considering this..

Smokers or Drinkers will have to pay £300(all proceeds going to the nhs lol) a year for a permit that will allow you to puchase drink or ciggies for consumption at home.

Bloody hell what next, tax on earnings and yet still have to pay for quick medical treatment and always for dental treatment?. Or prehaps pay hugh tax rates on petral any yet still have to pay for road tax for your car?. Or even if your loved ones leave you there home and savings, the government will prob want to have a chunk of that next too!!!.

But seriouslly it is oh so annoying that the govenrment are going via the back door to turning this country into a dictatorship of a nation.

can't be true? there are similar laws in some middle east countries (qatar) where you can drink but you need a license! once the cost goes too high it will only encourage the black market, making it more dangerous for everyone. like illegal drugs now (imo)

Rubbish.
Dr Chaand Nagpaul, GP representative on the British Medical Association’s public health committee said the idea was a non-starter and completely unworkable.

Like I.D cards and so on, Like banning smoking in pubs, like mobile phone use in cars and so on....this is the control freak of a government if it takes away more of our rights they will try and introduce it.

The scheme would ensure smokers had to make a conscious decision to continue the habit and require people to become "registered addicts".

Oh boy will that mean we will get all the perks off the dss that drug addicts get?
