News: Beware phone scam
Colleagues are warned to be on their guard against the latest premium rate phone scam. (05/04/06)
Royal Mail has advised that many people are getting caught by a phony parcel delivery fraud.
The scam originates from Belize in central America, and has been operating for a few months now. Thousands of households have received cards from PDS Parcel Delivery asking its recipients to call 0906 6611911 to arrange redelivery of a parcel. No such parcel exists.
Calls to this premium rate number are charged at £15 for the initial connection plus £1.50 for every subsequent minute.
ICSTIS, the premium rate service regulator, is investigating the scam and advises anyone receiving such a card to simply throw it away and not make any calls to the number given.
