Hi,

Just got a Plasma and I have been trying to get some HD into it. I have located a few channels - BBC HD ect. I have streamed from dreambox to my PC via a network cable and used Dreamview but the picture is very jerky. I know its probibly down to my grafixs card.

My question is - whats the alternative?

I even have HDMI output on my PC, but if the picture is jerky on the monitor via Dreamview, I assume the HDMI signal will be poor as well - I've not invested in any cables yet.

Just wondering how others are managing to enjoy the HD programming thats out there.

Sadly our current Dreambox's arnt hd compatable. But even then I did'nt think that you would get any picture from a hd channel on a non hd receiver?. Even if you\we can get a picture from a hd channel on a db, if would be downscaled from hd to that of regular channels

I dont think that we have any full hd channels available at the moment anyways m8.

I believe that the only options we have for hd viewing at the moment is via a ss1 card in a pc on just that pc monitor.

I'm a little unsure what the score would be outputting the sat signal via a hdmi cable from a graphics card if a ss1 channel is broadcasting a hd channel?.

In any case they way your currently doing it means the signal is'nt even hd by the time it's reached your pc m8.

Dave,

To my surprise, I can actually get a HD picture on my monitor from my DB. I have even transfered this image to my Plasma using just a Dsub monitor cable. The picture is superb and is definately HD (or at least some varient of it). My only problem is the extreemly jerky / stuttered picture.

(Bear in mind this is the raw output from the dreambox before it goes through the video outputs)

As for material, there's always BBC HD on 28E.

Well I'd certainly be interested enough to try myself, but I've still many doubts as to the technical info of the stream from the BBC HD channel on your monitor m8.

But the quality of an lcd monitor over a regular tv is very notable. Kind of when I switched from a crt tv to my hd lcd tv. The resolution is no different on my lcd tv but it does look far superior 90% of the time.

The fact that it's a hd lcd is irrelevent as it cant really improve the pic quality of a regular tv signal to a hd quality signal. It just looks a hell of a lot better as the screen quality is far superior than a crt screen.

dave dreamboxes can recieve hdtv they just can't display it unless you stream it to a pc and even then cos of the ammounts of data the stream can/will be flakey.

and as far as TFT's and CRT' s go. i would'nt swap my 21" CRT for a TFT. there is just no competition in quality. i also have a 19" TFT and while i use this as my primary monitor, as soon as im gaming or watching the footy i switch displays :ok

Well I stand corrected on the db and hdtv channels then dave lol. I never realised at all. But at least the ss1 is far more stable for this purpose.

Is there no way to stabalise the stream at all to get a stable picture?.

As originally asked are any members watching HDTV?. If so what is your setup?. As the original post said I'd also like to start watching hdtv.

As for CRT vs LCD\TFT, I'm not even going there. Except to say that in the majority of broadcasts flat screen tv's\monitors do have superior quality. Sometime inferior to crt. I guess it all depends on the quality of the broadcast and VBR.

I think things will change a lot in the next year when we should start getting hdtv a lot more.
