computer seams to be tripping out again lol

now the processer id running idel at 60c and when i try to back something up seen the temp at 64 although was whatching the temp but dont know when it trips out, i got a fan for a athlon but didnt fit as i though they were a standard fit :ok

now the processer is a athlon 2400 , 462 socket,

now would i be best ~ re pasting the fan as it seams to be working or replace it and if so what should i go for ??? not too exspensive though as though it may of been the hard drive and just picked one up for the hell off it .

any help would be great as limited with the lap top

thanx in advance

64 degrees is not overly hot for an AMD processor Teddy. Check in the bios to see what the shutdown temperature is set to and if necessary up it to 75 degrees ........

computer is in bits at the moment

will i have to replase the paste between the fan and cpu or can i just pop it back ???

what do you think the cpu should run at it was just the brother in law thought it was a bit hot as hids runs in the 50 's

what about a good fan , would this help it a bit

was looking at this on and have asked them it it will fit

Hi teddy. i posted this on the old forum, take time out to view these guides, should help you install everything correctly:ok

here's a good guide to fitting a AMD cpu.

_http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_869_1073^6678,00.html

there's 5 small video files to download. there's a couple things in there i didn't realise, or that AMD recommend.

1. the heatsink's for AMD cpu's has to match the cpu speed there's different pressure points on the spring clip on the heatsink that match's the position of the cpu.
2. AMD recommend the use of pads for long term use and paste for short term removal and testing cpu's

one thing which is in one of the guides, which i would not recommend is when the protected film is removed from the thermal pad, who ever is doing the guide touch's the thermal pad with his finger. i read on serval guides don't touch the cpu or thermal pad - paste, as dead skin cells or grease from your finger will reduce the effect of the thermal protection layer

all so teddy,
i'am running a AMD athlon XP 2400+ and use thermal pads (bought from Maplins- about £6 for a strip of 5) which i find give lot better results, as i tend to be a bit heavy handed with the paste, which can cause problems.
the cpu temp idle is 32c the highest i've seen is about 40c and that was after doing a lot of video editing.

you could set the bios to the default best recommended setting, just in case you've altered something in there and are unknoweningly overclocking your system

thanx hagrid and macker for all your help:ok

just orded the thermal pads off e bay for £1.49 inc p&p, this is the easyest way as would not be able to get to maplind till the end off the week.

the processer is a xp2400 and it runs at 2.07 i think which is the same speed as my brother in laws xp2800 so do you think it has been set up wrong ??, would not know where to start with what you said to check hagrid so could you do a step by step what to do, just sussed how to format the bloody thing lately lol.

maybe it was set up wrong in the first place as the place i got it from when i bought it said come back iin half a hour,
