there are afew ways to fix it mate but i wouldnt like to try them.
the 3 penny one looks most easy to do but that is at your OWN risk
mate

you will most prob need to be joined to this forum for the link to work

i think its possible that you can remove the old drive and stick it in a new xbox BUT you will need backup the firmware from your new drive and extract the key from the backup

and reflash the firmware on the older drive with this new key first
but all the info is on xbox scene you just have to search for it .

My 360 is getting fixed at the moment geting the x-clamp fix or something.Just a quick question my firmware is 4.2 xtreme i think and am not banned from live but i was wondering while its getting fixed is it work getting it upgrade to the new firmware

thetarget

the latest firmware will only allow full stealth games to boot
so if you upgraded to the latest some of your games what are not fully stealth will not work

that said if you want to stay on live i would use the lastest
as its safer

myself i never use live so im using the lastest firmware that will boot all games
5.3

The only time i use live it to download demos plus am thinking of my be playing the odd game on it but am not realy into that. Most of the games i get are patched with stealth for the new firmware

mate the 3 lights has nothing to do with the dvd drive

its due to the graphics/cpu chips coming away from the motherboard
its a common problem in fact its the most common problem with the 360
its due to overheating and bad design of the clamps that hold the heatsinks in place.

it can be fixed 80% of the time by replacing the xclamps that hold the heat sinks in place the other 20 % will need a solder reflow.

btw installing a dvd drive isnt as simple as you think for the 360.

i'll not go into detail but you just can't plop a 360 drive into a 360
and it works ....you need to inject the correct key string into the firmware of the dvd or the mother board wont allow you to use it

dvd drive and motherboard are married up without the correct key the drive wont work.

when you get it if it works dont mess with it mate

think the best mod you could do yourself is get talismoon wisper fans
and replace the oem fans inside with them

also cutting out the metal grill thats behind the fans is said to make air flow
alot better you wont even know its been cut once you put the case back on

:biggrin

Got my 360 back played sound for the first day but the next day i got E 74 or 1022

thetarget
9th September 2007, 12:21
E74: There is a 90% chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA" or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a faulty AV cable so check that first. In rare cases it is a problem with the GPU.
