2 Dead Comm ports

I think I might of blown my comm ports on my pc its an asus av7v8x. They are showing up in the device manager but when I try to use them nothing. Any sugestions are they repairable

Try disabling them and then re-enabling them mate, I've seen this work occasionally when Windows starts 'ignoring' devices. Also, you could uninstall them and again, re-install ..............

Thanks macker tried that I reckon they are gone for good. looks like I will have to get a usb to serial convertor. Thats what you get for fiddling with custom stb updater cables

Can you remove them completly in device manager turn off pc then switch back on enable them and see if windows will find them.

Done that still no joy I lost com 1 about 6 months ago and com 2 yesterday. Inbetween that U have had a reinstall of xp and com 1 was still no go.

I dont know what your bios is like, but is there anything in there you could look at,

Tried changing irq adresses in the bios etc. although windows accepts the changes its makes no difference they just seem dead. I have seen a usb to serial convertor on line for £12 so on monday I think I will order it. I am pretty sure that I have blown something on the motherboard.

Usb to serial convertor i have one of those paid £4 for it including postage off ebay not used it, but i have it just incase i need to do my dbox from my non serial pc etc, so check ebay out.

Went to comp fair today to get one. Ended up buying a dream box of Dicky cost me more than £4 though
