Well got my new system built over the last 3 days (baby keeping me busy lol) only to read of problems with SATA hdd's!. Now not installed anything yet as busy with the baby. But I've read that XP does not include any sata drivers, therefor will not recognise the presense of my sata drive. And therefor cannot install XP to my new sata hdd?.
The XP I've got has apparently been updated with everything to april this year so I just dont know. But if not I'm asking in advance if anyone can offer any advice as I just aint buying an antique floppy drive to put sata drivers on to install that way!!!!!.
In time, prob over the weekend, I'm also wanting to install Vista just for DX-10 games, so dunno if that will also cause problems with sata hdd's?.

the sata drivers will be on the motherboard drivers disk, if windows fails to see it, but ive only had to use them once to get a system up and running

Thanks for the responce, I might try later tonight if I have time. You'd think that in XP really dont include the sata drivers, why not?. Sata as a format has been about for quite a few years.
But I'd expect that the bios might at least include the sata drivers to get around this. Guess if asked to provide the sata drivers, which does seem to be on the mobo cd then it wont screw up the xp cd install be removing it to install from the mobo cd and then put the xp cd back in?.
It's just that I've read elsewere that I either have to do the sata drivers vis floppy or even patch the xp cd itself.
In anycase the mobo cd includes vista drivers so all aught to be ok in the end.

the original XP was released in 2001, a long long time ago in the computer world and before sata was standard, but XP SP2 should detect them fine, and it sounds you have downloaded a recently updated version of XP so you will probably be ok

Just installed one myself. Copy the drivers fron the cd rom to a 3.5 inch floppy. Boot windows from cd rom and press f6 when booting up. It will then eventually ask you to press 'S' to specify the type of drive to be installed. It will look for the 3.5 inch floppy and install it and continue to install windows. Once windows is installed restart go into bios and set the boot device to the raid/ ata device.
It worked form me but what a carry on. Cheers Ivor

Is this SATA built into the motherboard? Most ones that are built in have an option in the BIOS to set the SATA drives to IDE mode. If the SATA is set to IDE, XP will install using its own IDE drivers. It's only when the SATA is set to RAID or something other than IDE that you need the driver disk.
