they will give you a credit if they are at fault there just trying to stop people
ringing up asking how to use there computer that has nothing to do with boardband

they say more than half the calls they get are from people who just can't
work there pc's and are not broardband related

Well I've just done that speed test and it's only coming back at 0.9mbit when it should be 2.0mbit. I'm of cause assuming that particular test is accurate and not biised to virgin media in any way?.

thetarget

that speed test is rubbish i tested mine with it each time it came up with new answer ranging from 5 mb to 10mb

best way to test would be to download direct from virgin servers
using the newgroups is a real good way to test

try a few good speed tests

Think you lot have got in for Virgin.

John Gaunt was has having a pop at broadband providers in his Sun column
this week, and on his radio show.

Think again folks, please .

Virgin Media are very good compared to many others,

The customer services are good, I had a modem problem and phoned them free phone, a lady in Asia arranged an engineer appointment to suit me.
Morning appointment 2 days later between 8am and 1pm and sure enough an
engineer turned up at 12.30 he apologised for being late, he was on time!
He replaced my modem, took 10 minutes and all was well again .
Remember Virgin customers can take advantage of their cable offer for mobiles £10= 300 minutes and 300 texts to any landline or mobile UK
Does not cost a penny for an engineer to attend and cheap mobile calls.
its just great value,
and my 2mb speed was tested at 2.1 mb

if you want to call or email them about speed they will always fob you off
if you are getting your info from online speed tests

speedtest servers could be slow that sort of thing

to gain a true speed you need to download right from there own servers
i have just download a file from there newsgroup to show you the sort
of difference im talking about

look at what the speed test results i posted for my line and look at the speed i download from cables own servers

jonc
20th July 2007, 23:57
It got fukall to do with use not liking or likeing virgin its to do with the fact that we get sh1t speeds.....how do you use there newsgroup

thetarget

download grabit _http://www.shemes.com/

install and add a server with the host name news.blueyonder.co.uk
(this name might not be the same for you deppending what was the original
name b4 virgin took over)

download the group list to test you can connect to the server

all being well

join _http://www.nzbsrus.com/ its like a torrent site for nzb files

download a new nzb file (less than 7 days old only )

open it with grabit and it will start to download all the files if there on the servers

then post the speed you can get

btw what speeds are you getting from the 2 tests i posted ???????

virgins servers are free mate and unlimited but the only retain binaries for a week meaning you have to be fast grabing a film or what ever
you sould also download quick par

as some of the files will need reapairing after download quickpar repairs them if the said file has par files .

is your modem connected to you pc via a network cable or a usb lead ?
post up speed test results from the last speed test i posted
bout 4 posts up

thetarget

if you not locked into a 12 month contract you can phone there
customer relations centre and tell them your thinking about leaving them for more speed at less cost

thats what i did and i was on 4 mb at the time
so they said well dont leave us and we will give you 10mb for £25
a month same as the 4 mb for the next 6 months
i said no and if i was going to stay they wouls have to match bulldog prices

i also reminded them that if i go to bulldog i will also have to get a bt line
so they would lose me on both of ther services

after abit of blaging i got it down to £19 for the next 6 months lol

when i got close to the end of the 6 months i phoned them again and
got them to give me another 12 months

i'll just keep doing that every 12 months :biggrin funny thing is i can't even get a bt line in our street lmfao

it wont work if your under contract and i do get all there 3 services
and have done for years

ring 150 from your cable phone and tell customer service your not happy with your broadband speed and price and you would like to talk to customer relations about it they will give you the number

jonc
23rd July 2007, 01:39
Ive only got there broandband and ive only got about 2months if that left on my contract so do you think that will work for me

Dave Mak
23rd July 2007, 02:25
wait till you've got about 3 weeks left then phone them up :ok

thetarget
23rd July 2007, 02:27
at the moment you cant realy say your leaving cos your under contract
still so i honestly don't know mate

ive been with them for about 8 years for all there service so my contract
ran out years ago

thetarget
23rd July 2007, 02:28
as dave said would be the best bet

but phone them to find out how long you have just to be sure

jonc
23rd July 2007, 16:30
I rang them today 25p a minute and it tuck about 6 to find my details. He was going on about this capping think for heavy users but he recons am not getting capt and to try again later when my speed drops again

thetarget
23rd July 2007, 16:51
as far as i know the capping only happens to top 5% of worst offending
downloaders

jonc
23rd July 2007, 18:26
I must be one of the 5% m8 as my internet slows down about tea time but am not that bad of a downloader

jonc
23rd July 2007, 19:03
Sorry about this there just rang them and there was a few things i didn't realy under stand but if am right he was saying that if i download 700odd mb before 4 o clock i will be capped till 12 bells or if i download that after 4 bell i will be capped ever way that sh1t.So am on the cappig list the best was if i get the 10mb [20mb] i will be capped back to 5mb so thats £37 amonth to get 5mb bb for 8.00 hours aday

jonc
24th July 2007, 15:28
Just rang them again and the storie changes each time if i uopgrade to there 10mb/20mb i get a 3gb download so if i download or upload this in the capped time then i will be capped .wich is bull realy as am getting capped even though i havnt downloaded i tryed to blagg a deal of them but because i was only on there bb they couldnt give me one but i did get them to give me a phone line and the 20mb bb for £37 amonth so am thinking about it now

jonc
2nd August 2007, 16:38
Ive rang them about 5 times to day and finally sort got some were [after about spending £15 on phone calls]They said there is a problem and they will look into it.They told me to download this download monitor www.tinyurl.com/56gze "but watch it when you open a web site" i hope they dont add this to you download limit for that day as they said something else could be dowling with out you knowing
