View Full Version : PSp and Umd Discs
Is it possible to burn movies and music to umd discsa to play on a psp or does it need to be modded. Also is it worth the risk to reflash the psp to play back up games and have many people actually flashed theirs ( so to speak). Thanks in advance ivor.

back up games, movies and music run from a memory card with software installed on the card, not sure if the psp needs to reflashed to play movies or music, but to play back up games it would need to be reflashed to run the software.
a lot depends on what firmware and motherboard the psp has, as to how easy it is to be flashed. (but doing it wrong will destroy your psp) you can get it done for about £20, there was a few stalls at bowlers computer fair in manchester (every saturday) doing this last time i went, a few months ago.
check this site out, and check the forum link on the left of the page for more info.

as yet i've not had any luck with backed up movies, then again i've only tryed 1 umd movie disc to date. as for playing backed up games that i have no problems with. it all depends on what firmware u have on ur psp. any thing upto firmware 3.03 can be downgraded to golden firmware 1.50. This version of firmware allows you to install homebrew appz. i have done about 5 psp's to date, and it does not matter which type of motherboard the psp has, as i have had no problems with the two types i've seen to date. you can tell which type of mobo u have 1 of 2 ways, 1) if firmware is 2.80 and below from new, its the original mobo, if its 2.81 and above from new then it a new TA-082 mobo, 2) if you open the umd drive and look at the top right hand corner u will see ic1003 on the TA-082 mobo.
pm me if u want any more info, the link HAGRID posted will also give you all the info u need
thanks will look on the link, have nt open the box yet. But I always value the opinions on this forum before investigating further. Will get back when I get more info.. Thanks again IVor

i have an all in one package that will downgrade psp to 1.50 and then upgrade to a custom firmware, if you want it just pm me. but you will need an orginal copy of gta liberty city stories with a firmware 2.0 update NOT one with 2.60, and you must not be running firmware higher than 3.03 on your psp.
Thanks. What media are backed up games stored on? Do I need an orginal copy of gta liberty city stories to play this game or is it just for the update?

backed up games are stored on the memory stick. THere is something about an original copy of gta liberty city stories firmware 2.0 version, that finds a backdoor so to speak, that when run with a downgrader program will allow you to downgrade. You only need to run the downgrader ONCE, after you have downgraded, you will need to install a custom firmware as i've said before, this is so u can play new games etc. If you downgrade and then upgrade to custom firmware, never installed the latest firmware from pony, cos ths will overwrite your custom firmware and remove the homebrew. As ive said before there is no known method yet of downgrading 3.10 and above.

Thanks for that. Its currently running 2.81 after a couple of software updates from fifa street and PES6. Still unsure whether to flash it as not sure how to get hold of the correct version of GTA. also my wife will kill me if I brick it as it is my sons. Cheers Ivor.

gta is available on ebay, amazon quite cheap. the one you'll be after is the one that is non-patched. most ebay auctions of them will say whether they are patched or not.

to play movies on the psp you need a program called ps video 9.
There are loads of programs that will do it but I have found this one to be the best.
You just put a dvd in the PC select it then click on convert, takes about 1.5 hours then you plug in the psp and click on copy.
On the psp you click on movies/mem card and click play.
It is really simple and you dont need the psp flashed.
You will need to flash it to play games and Im not sure how its done anymore, I flashed mine ages ago but my mate recently re-flashed it and it showing 3.40 oe-a so I have the wireless back and the browser. I dont think you need GTA anymore but I wouldnt put money on it cos I havnt done it recently but I didnt use it when I downgraded mine from 2.00 to 1.5
