After months of will they, won't they, the BBC have confirmed that they will be launching HD trial from mid May with their share of WC matches being shown in HD. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4834322.stm for not much more detail.
I only hope my ss2 and P4 3.4 can decode it

ok but it also says "HDTV will only be available to viewers who have HD-enabled television sets, set-top boxes and relevant services via satellite and cable distributors. "
So digital terrestrial viewers miss out but looks like sat viewers with compatible kit will be ok.
