Then the movie opens with a young woman getting ready to go out, she heads out and the curfew takes place whilst she is out gets cornered by the police who are corrupt one decides he is going to rape her, he slowly pushes her upto the wall and a masked man appears we then find out this is V aka William Rookwood played by the Matrix`s Mr Smith aka Hugo Weaving who defends her and kills the police he takes her to a top of a building where we witness the destruction of the old bailey, this is the beginning he is a new version of guy fawkes he believes that Britain as gone to far , in this britain set in the near future people are not allowed to speak their minds , they can not say anything political the government is always right various things are banned, there are curfews and the government creates disasters and blames it on terrorists so they can introduce new laws to control its people - (John Hurt is the chancelor the man in charge) ... sound familar?
Anyhow without giving anything else away what can i say...
If you expect it to be matrix-y no its not this movie was written a few years before the matrix , its a got a basic story - "people should not be scared of the governments but the governments should be scared of the people - are you listening tony????"
This film is a good film but i found it lacking - i think i was expecting matrix style filming and effects...or i was expecting a deeper story etc it did lack something but i cant seem to think what it is..
Its generally a good movie and movie that makes you think about how our own government is slowly taking away our freedom.
Anyway if youre expecting the matrix forget it and miss it, if you like a movie with some element of what we can expect watch it.
3/5
