I had this last year and beginning of this year with my alpha combi boiler...

I was advised on a few things to check out

easiest one water pressure check the guage on the boiler making sure its not too low or too high

-
Thermostat so i tracked down a company that actually sold parts for my boiler and purchased a new one and replaced it...

Same problem occurred..

-
Circuit board on the controls - i had no way of checking that out.

-
The diaphram in your diverter valve may have split this according to some is costly....well lets just say should be...i used the instruction book with the boiler located it near the middle of the boiler turned it off completely water/gas and electric etc opened it up and yep like a rubber thing inside had all split... damn couldnt buy one of these myself so i took it out ...looked at it...

went up the loft grabbed a rubber slip mat of one of my turntables came down, measured it up using the hole in the middle sat it on the spindle thing carefully cut around it to the exact size removed the old one, cleaned it up...

contact adhesive on the rubber and contact adhesive on the other, left it day and half put it back in...switched on water, switched on gad and power...

and touch wood...no problems...

But thats my experience could be different with each make/model etc

my shower is upstairs connected to a showermixer...the reason why im saying this is because ive just tried the downstairs hot tap and when i put it fully on the boiler stays on with sufficient hot to boiling water but when i decrease the water flow it goes on and off but im now feeling that there is not enough pressure for the hot water to go upstairs even though the pressure looks fine but ime a little confused now!
