Just been caught on East Lancs road/ carr mill junction
I'm charged with jumping a red light, but I was going at 56mph
surely too fast to stop safely.

I'm waiting for the photograpic evidence. and then i'll defend it in court.

driver behind tailgating etc..

anyone been there ?

do the court /police have any bigger /extra photos
that are kept secret!. until you get to stand trial?

All help appreciated..:ok

I would have thought that a redlight one would be even harder to beat than a speeding camera offence to be honest mate. You mean the 580 ? If so, I have to admit that I've nearly been caught out a couple of times down there myself when the lights have changed, as you say, it's a quick road. I wouldn't rely on the excuse that 'I was going too fast to stop safely' or try to blame another driver though, I cant see the magistrates looking favourably on that ......................

Also, I dont think you can get legal aid or so on for motoring offences which means it will cost you to mount any kind of reasonable defence and the fines are likely to more severe if you lose.

At the end of the day mate, if you committed the offense, taking it 'on the chin' and simply paying up is probably the best course of action ...............

PS: With regard to bigger photo's/more evidence. If you did defend the case then I imagine that the prosecution would have an obligation to disclose any such evidence to you prior to the court hearing as in most other legal cases ...........

paying up is the only option m8:mad:

was prosecuted myself a few years ago on the A580 for jumping the lights.
I was driving a tranny (fast) with a load in the back, the lights changed and there was
no way i could stop without the load shifting, even though it was secured.
I asked to see the photo evidence and was told to go to Manchester to see it which i didn't
as i was informed the reason was not a valid excuse and i should have slowed down
and anticipated the lights changing.

The faster the road the longer the amber light is on before changing to red, therefor if you're doing the speed limit you will have ample time to come to a safe stop - regardless of the weather conditions. Thats how they look at it - you're fooked mate i'm afraid - one of my mates has just gone through the exact same thing.

I know thats not what you want to hear

also you are supposed to always take it as if the lights are red already and to slow down, looks like you gonna be out of pocket m8

Shire M8,

When you approach a junction, it's down to a matter of judgement as to whether you proceed or not. If, in your case you judged it was unsafe to brake sharply because of a following vehicle, you should have a reasonable case to answer.

You might find something relevant in the FightBack 4rum at www.pepipoo.com

Best of luck if you go to court....... most of us will back out of this kind of situation but I admire those that are prepared to fight their corner:ok

Did the car behind follow you through? Cos if he stopped and isn't on the photograph then i dont think you've got much of a case mate :confused

It's up to you m8, "They" will always try to scare you into paying the fine, "you'll pay more if you fight blah blah". So far I got off with Three parking tickets (OK I know it's not the same thing) so it can be done.

Merseyside Police offered me a driver awareness couse. instead of points.

no points but still had to pay £60 for the half day re-education lecture. at the hotel beside the red light camera. er , took the easy way out and attended the hotel lecture. it was more interesing than expected ... I now slam on the brakes at red lights. so don't tailgate me m8..:ok

You did the right thing, Shire M8, by taking the course.... it keeps points off your licence:ok

Alyson had the same thing doing 35 in a 30 took the course paid £60!
she now uses the cruise control in the car all the time to make sure she stays in the speed limit.
i think she has 3 years and that is removed. if you do it again within 3 years you get a fine and points.

also where ever the offense takes place that is where you sit the course

she said one guy had to travel from London to the police headquarters in holywell.

she also said the majority were in there 60`s and 70`s that had been on days out.

yes if you speed or break the law it`s your own fault, but did`t we help bring down Russia and the iron curtain .... freedom and all that . now they want us to have a box in our cars so they can track our every move. they are Turing us in to Russia ..

Starlin rules :confused

ok going the other way on this wots the best excuse or reason u have gotten of a fine etc.

mine was couple year ago coming back from liverpool city centre was going over seaforth flyover when a copper in the bus layby pulled me over. he said i was doing 58 (in a 40) at the top of flyover and 48 (30) at the bottom, as i noticed that he was parked on double yellow lines thought i be cocky, he said i had a chance to convince him not to give me a ticket, i said at least i slowed down by 10 mph. not doing a good job he replied. he then went on to say that he had been told to give tickets to everyone doing 5 mph over the limit, to which he said i think that is to low so he was giving everyone doing 15 over limit a ticket. thats me screwed then i said as u say i was doing 48 to which he down round and said "if that was an everton shirt u was wearing u'd be walking away with a ticket, now get in ur car and f**k off" i was wearing an arsenal shirt if any asks.

anyway bang to rights 37 in a 30 zone ,

offered a slowdown course instead of points .

course costs £60 same as fine suprised cilla black.

it could be worse count my blessing .

i still keep almost clean licence ,
this re-education of drivers should have started many years ago!

And my licence could be point free

not point freefall

Reminds me of years ago when I'd bought a car while Im was learning to drive (other ractors stopped me completing the course). The car was parked outside my dads house.

1 day kids were messing about by the car (as they always did) and somehow the rear number plate had a bit broken off it. Guess what, within 2 hours the police had slapped a ticket on it for having an imcomplete number plate!.

When I pointed this out to the police about in not being my fault and previously reported the kids to the police for messing by and with the car and being out of work it was a case of so what. It would have been about a third of the cost to have me get a new plate than the cost of the ticket!.

I just think that in a lot of areas, more so in North Wales the police really love building up there budget surpluss.

After that I gave up learning to drive and completing my lessons because I lost heart in that the motorist was anything but a target to generate income in any whch way the police feel they can get away with.

theres been a recent clampdown around liverpool, they have been giving out on the spot fines to drivers for not having a legal numberplate, the ones getting stopped are the numberplates that have the liverpool or everton badge in place of the euro logo, or any other logo other than the euro logo. when you buy these numberplates you should be told that they are not legal,
all so you shouldn't get an on the spotfine which has happened, but a 7 day notice to fix the problem.

you take your wallet in your own hands when you get behind a wheel today:tongue:

A number of us were at the Wirral egg run oday, coppers a plenty all on their best behaviour, but still managed to squeeze a car into a prime position to clock virtualy every plate on every bike as they filterd slowly past it in front of Windsors in wallasey Village....
They definitely didnt pull people up for 'naughty' number plates today though!
