you can access windows update with firefox
there is an extension available from Windizupdate (http://windowsupdate.62nds.com/)
to install the plugin and get the updates working
you first need to allow the site to install the extension (you'll get a message at the top of the browser saying firefox has prevented yada yada...)click the box and add the site to the allowed list,
close firefox and then reopen it and goto the link posted above, hit scan for updates and when you get the warning dialog choose the allow site option.
job done...now theres no Windows Genuine Advantage to worry about and you'll get the extra updates like updated drivers etc; that Microsoft will only let out to customers who have passed WGA.
