i inherited a technisat skystar 1 ....ive got it going, but no sound at all. most channel seem to be off... how do i find encryption codes??? which satellites are receievable with a steerable 80 cm. dish???

You will need to plug your speaker into the back of the SS1 card or wire it internally to hear the sound mate. There are no public keyfiles at the moment unfortunately, but you should get plenty of free to air channels from the likes of Astra 2, Astra 1 and Hotbird satellites.
