Hi all , i was woken up at 7 am this morning by my wife shouting "Quick, get up , we've got a leak downstairs".
I run downstairs and the kitchen floor is swimming with water, so i close the mains stop cock and drain down by opening the other ground floor taps.

After calming down and finally putting on a pair of boxer shorts  i discovered the cause of our indoor paddling pool.
The picture below is of a John Guest speedfit isolating valve, the push fit variety.
If you look closely you can see the fitting has somehow come apart at one of its joints exposing the black "o" ring seal.:eek
This fitting has been in use since the new kitchen was installed 5 years ago, the plumbing was done by myself (Heating engineer).
I have never, in twenty years of plumbing seen one of these push fit fittings fail in this way before, sure they pull off if you don't insert the pipe end fully, but this is a catastrophic failure.!

My question is what should i do next.?
Inform my insurers that all the chipboard base unit carcases are satturated and need replacing, telling them that they should sue the manufacturer of the plumbing fitting.
Or should i just wait till Monday and see what John Guest(manufacturer) say?

Need some advice please :icon14:

Not having much luck just lately are you mate ! I imagine the manufacture will probably tell you that the installer was at fault or otherwise deny any responsibility. They may even ask for the fitting to be returned for examination which will undoubtedly take ages ..........

I would definately contact them, but in the meantime contact the insurers too mate .........

Just received a phone call from the manufacturers to say they will send out a technician to look at the defective fitting and also the damage it caused.

Chip board carcassing and water don't mix:eek
