Asking this for a mate who uses a Laptop and not Desktop, hes been having a few probs with crc errors when burning.

Up until about 2 weeks ago, everything was fine. All dvds burnt and copied fine.

Now all cds/dvd burn successfully, but it’s a lottery as to getting crc errors when reading/copying them back to HD.

Also the crc errors don’t seem to be at the same point or file on the disc.

The problem was occurring with the internal burner and no other external USB devices attached so its not/cant be a USB power issue.

Same problem occurring with an external usb bay with a brand new dvdrw drive in it.

All ports on the laptop are usb2.

Have reinstalled my system so its clean.

Only burning software I have on the system is nero 7, dvd decrypter and TMPGEnc DVD.

Have disabled the IMAPI service and disabled the recording facility on the DVD itself (right click on the DVD drive in windows and go properties|Recording).

Have got ASPI 4.71.1 installed

Any ideas?

what spyware/antivirus systems are running ??

I have copying problems if I have webroots spysweeper files running, (wwSecure.exe & WRSSDK.exe) and if I have antispam email checker running (SWasher.exe)

because of the way some spyware/antivirus systems residential shields check all files it can cause strange errors when trying to burn DVD's or trying to copy big files from cd/dvd's to HDD.

AL

PS winaspi 4.72 out

Try different blank media m8 and in my opion dvd`s burn better at a slightly slower rate ie 16x dvdr i always burn at 12x, 8x at 6x and so on.

Get rid of nero 7 its overbloated in my opion drop back to nero 6, also check these discs out in someone else`s computer to see if theyre having problems reading them it could be the reader in the laptop playing up.

also when burning these discs is he burning using dma transfer mode or pio transfer mode if it`s pio change to dma etc.

Thanks Cal

Hes sorted it for now anyway?

He originally told me that all he had running were the progs I mentioned, then yesterday he told me that he'd un-installed Power iso, don't know why this should have effected anything, but hes done about 10 all reading fine?
