Is it possible to partition a usb harddrive? I have tried with Acronis partition manager. I create the partition but when I come to end the acronis program I get an error message that says there is not enough memory and the partition dissapears. I am sure pure memory is not the problem but don't know what is. Any experience???

i take it you already have info on the drive. i've never liked any of these partition magic type utils. i always setup the partitions when the drive is blank, using disk management (right click my computer, manage, storage, disk management) within windows. a lot less hassle, so if you can back-up the data you have on the drive (you should have done this anyway before running any partitioning tools) then format the drive under disk management, you can now select the size you wish for the partition. :ok

Cheers Dave. There is no data on the drive at present as I only got hold of it yesterday. Hence my suprise at the lack of memory failure. I will give it a go through windows. I appreciate your help yet again.

Hi Dave, took your advice and worked through disk management but when I did format it only gave me options up to 64k (starting at 512, 1024, 2048......64k no chance for manual input). Is there something else I need to change first?

(all in disk management)
first off, right click on the usb drive and select delete partition so that it says unallocated.
