I am planning to purchase Asus P5KPL-AM iG31 matx board.
I just want to check that a Geforce 9800Gt will fit into the PCI-E slot without any obstructs as I have read that with some matx motherboards the battery and sata ports can obstruct a large sized graphics board.

I have the the case with a atx board fitted at the moment running with no problems apart from 50cm sticking out of the side, so the case is fine.

Also am I right in asuming regarding to speed there will be very little gained in the other intel chipsets ig33, ig35, ig41, ig45, my memory DDR2-667 (333 MHz)667mhz.

I dont I need any more features than whats on the Asus P5KPL.

If you could give me some help on this I would be very grateful

Thanks Coley

what do you already have?

case and mobo
or
case and g/card

if you have the case and g/card and it all fits then i see no probs looking at the pics of the asus board

if you have the case and mobo then its possible that the 9800gt will be a bit too big for the case.

also does it have to be a 9800gt (which is a rebadged 8800gt with some minor tweaks) the ati HD4850 is a far better card for the same price

also.. what is the rest of the intended specs of your system..

cpu
mem
monitor size

I have at the moment a atx tower case with a midi atx motherboard and a 9800gt. I have this connected via HDMI to a 32 Toshiba Lcd. This is located in my living room and is used for games surfing etc. But the case I have is massive.

I picked up a nice small case (matx)for £20. It takes normal atx power supplies and full size pci cards. I have got everthing in the new case including the new motherboard and it is running great and it looks superb except that the mobo sticks out by 2 inch lol.

that southbridge heat sink looks like it has been made thinner deliberately for that reason???

It defo goes in I have found a forum with people have it. I have at the moment a ASRock 4CoreDual-ViSTA with Motherboard Chipset ViaPT880Ultra. Do you think the performance will be better or worse than the ausus Asus P5KPL-AM iG31.
